Gaye Tolan Hatfield is a native of Scituate, Massachusetts. She attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and got her degree in Commercial Arranging from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
She started teaching at Berklee College of Music in 1992 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Ear Training Department.
In addition to a busy teaching schedule, Gaye remains active as a vocalist/flutist, composer, arranger and student.
Gaye is certified to teach Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri method.
Gaye has done extensive transcription work for the Boston Pops, and has created arrangements for the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the Providence Singers and NPR's 'From the Top'. In addition, she has transcribed and/or arranged for Boston vocalists Ellen O'Brien, Cassandre McKinley, Rebecca Parris, Kris Adams, Cecilia Colluci, Maria Perry and the Sisters of Swing.
